Konjaku Shin is very
much family orientated.
We believe that karate is for everyone; all ages, male and female.
In traditional karate, age and
sex are irrelevant.
Correct training benefits all, regardless of size or strength.

The very young can train side by
side, safely,
with the rest of their family.

Training is very carefully
structured, to help each
student reach their full potential.

In traditional karate, emphasis
is not on winning trophies.
In fact, only about 10% of people practicing karate worldwide
ever
wish to enter competitions.
So why do the other 90% practice karate?
It is for many reasons,
such as
self-defence, health, fitness & confidence.
If
emphasis is on competition prowess, only 10% of those training benefit.
If, however, emphasis is on overall development of the student,
then this is budo - the martial way, not sport, and 100% of those
training benefit.

Many parents bring their
children, hoping the training
will boost
their son's or daughter's self-esteem, making them
less susceptible to bullying. Bullying is unfortunately a universal problem,
and traditional karate can certainly help; not just in the ability to defend
oneself, but to make you less of a target in the first place.

Karate has also been proven to
have
an effect on childrens schoolwork. Their concentration
is greatly improved with systematic training.
On many occasions, parents have
brought their children
to attend a beginners course, then once they have watched,
they decide to start themselves.
So, if you are thinking of
something to take up as a family,
karate-do - "the way of karate" is perfect!
